Over the past few months I’ve ridden a roller coaster of feelings about Toyota’s quality problems. Each day I slip into my Camry as a defensive driver – ever conscious of my foot on the accelerator. I wonder how this could have happened. For some years I was employed by an OEM supplier in the auto industry and was impressed with the kaizen philosophy. Consequently, I made my first Toyota purchase, and cruised down the road with quality, value and efficiency, buying another in 2009. Then came new meaning to “Oh what a feeling” and “I love what you do for me.” Instead of asking for more, I’d like to ask for less – less greed, less complacency, and less evasion. Leaf is scheduled to be available by late 2010 – any predictions on my trade-in value?

This has definitely been a day for news in the sports arena. Apologies to Lindsey and Evan – I must confess to only getting the highlights of the Vancouver Winter Games. After admissions and apologies a la Tiger Woods and Mark McGwire, it seems only a matter of time before super-performance is overshadowed or tainted by revelations from the athlete. There’s also the wastefulness of building a new Olympic village. Is it really necessary to start over every four years when sufficient facilities exist? And in these economic times? Let’s learn from Vancouver – the bronze medal winner amongst environmental cities – Vancouver Games Go for the Green.

One can hardly visit the local grocery store or dry cleaner without hearing talk about the weather and an occasional snicker about global warming. I think folks are starting to believe in climate change with each push of the shovel. Snow is still in our local forecast, and I’m wondering what storms will follow in the spring. I’m also wondering when I’ll get those outdoor holiday decorations taken down! Pepsi’s Refresh blog has some great information on this topic and other ideas to refresh the world. Go to Pepsi Refresh Project – the planet – to be inspired to care about the world in a new way.

As an employee of Adco Cleaning Products LLC, I will be writing a blog on the adco eco website. As a 102 year old company, we are changing the way we do business. The goal of In the Spin is to have our readers share their ideas on living green. Most of us have changed our habits to recycle and re-use, and have become even more aware of our influence on the environment. As a parent of 3, I am concerned for future generations and look for biodegradable products to use in my home. I invite you to check out our website and leave your questions about our products, or comments on ways to make our planet a better place. By sharing initiatives, together we can be In the Spin- following the motto of Adco “Where we go one, we go all.”
